The French capital is suffocating from exhaust fumes

The authorities of Paris state the fact that the concentration of harmful microparticles in the city air has reached a record high. Therefore, they were forced to take extreme measures, and will appeal to the government with a request to introduce a ban on the operation of cars on certain days. The essence of the sanctions is that on odd days it will be possible to move around the city by car with odd numbers, and on even days, respectively, on the contrary. 

If such measures are approved, the ban will be in effect until April 2015, on days when the condition of the Paris air will be unsatisfactory, i.e. if for 3 days the density of harmful particles exceeds the mark of 50 micrograms per m3. Low night temperatures, the absence of wind and rain worsen the chemical composition of the air. Which, moreover, is aggravated by the work of industrial enterprises, automobile emissions and the heating season. 

The city administration assures that public transport will be free during the days of restrictions. And the ban will not affect electric vehicles, hybrid cars and those running on natural gas, ambulances and cars with at least three passengers.
